GUSTAV HOLST: "THE PLANETS"
Gustav Holst was an English composer (1874-1934) who is best known for his orchestral work, The Planets. Written during World War I and first performed in 1918, the music expresses feelings based on Astrology and the influences of the seven major planets outside Earth.
The music ranges over the intense power and force in Mars, The Bringer of War, to the haunting , other-worldly voices in Neptune, the Mystic. Themes from The Planets, especially the Mars movement, have frequently been used in Rock music, television, film, and video games.
